Johannesburg â Today Council Members of the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) assessed building standards at the Fleurhof housing project as part of its oversight responsibility.
Situated between Meadowlands and Florida, the township project will link Johannesburgâs Soweto township with the cityâs more affluent suburbs and forms part of the City of Johannesburgâs residential infrastructure development drive.
The purpose of the site inspection by NHBRC senior officials is to highlight the importance of regulation in the housing industry.
However, NHBRC Executive Chairperson, Abbey Chikane said that the NHBRCâs role goes beyond this.
âWe want to ensure that building quality standards are maintained on the ground so as to protect housing consumers from being left with badly built homes. We do this through our stringent requirements and regular inspections of all home projects that are registered with us,â he said.
With over 10 000 housing opportunities, Fluerhof is one of the largest residential developments in Gauteng.
NHBRC Executive for Business Development, Ms Thitinti Moshoeu said that each housing unit is assessed at various stages of construction to ensure that problems are identified early and rectified as soon as possible.
âWe work closely with contractors and builders to ensure that they comply to the building standards during this process in in order to mitigate against risks associated with building a new home,â she said .
