The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) welcomes the nomination of its Women Empowerment Programme (WEP) as one of the three finalists for the Most Innovative Women Training Programme, at this year’s Women in Construction Awards.

The awards hosted as part of the African Construction/Totally Concrete Expo will take place on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the Sandton International Convention Centre.

The NHBRC’s Chief Operations Officer, Thandiwe Ngqobe says “we feel honoured by this nomination. It is encouraging that our effort in addressing empowerment challenges in the industry is recognized.”

The NHBRC created WEP in partnership with the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s Enterprise Development Academy in order to boost leadership and business skills of women entrepreneurs in the construction industry.

“This is in line with the NHBRC’s strategy to be a leader in knowledge creation, technical and technological building solutions through strategic partnerships,” says Ngqobe

Thus far 100 women have gone through the programme, following the success of the pilot programme initiated in 2013.

The candidates attend a four-month academic programme that entails training led by leading academics and key influencers in the industry which is also followed by a mentorship programme. Also, candidates develop comprehensive business plans and are assessed for individual and company revenue growth.
